Shady Bottom is a gritty, down-to-earth six-piece instrumental groove party.  Lead by two horns and a rhythm section consisting of drums, bass, guitar, and a real gen-u-ine Hammond B3 organ, Shady Bottom keeps the deep funk deep-down in the pocket. As one fan put it: “This is the finest in bass-heavy funk.”

The group is an off-shoot of Seattle soul groovers Soul Senate, and focuses on laying down danceable, party-oriented, instrumental burnin’ funk & soul tracks from the late 60′s and 70′s. Shady originals are inspired from that era–when funk was getting heavier, but soul was still soulful, and Jimi was changing everything.  Influences such as James Brown, Syl Johnson, Booker T & the MGs, and Charles Wright run deep through their songs and set.

Members of the band currently perform or have performed with West Seattle Soul, the Hot McGandhis, Cascadia ’10, Soul Senate, Jerry Miller, and Lady C & the Lowdown.  They also come from established funk, soul, and groove bands such as Altered States of Funk, Swamp Mama Johnson, Kissing Potion, and have made appearances with Etta James, Bo Diddley, and the Monophonics.  Shady Bottom has performed at venues across the area from the Showbox at the Market, the Tractor Tavern, Nectar, the Seamonster, High Dive, and Neumos. Having performed countless shows, festivals, and private events, these seasoned veterans make it happen without a hitch.
