Shady Bottom is a gritty, down-to-earth six-piece instrumental groove party.  Lead by two horns with a rhythm section consisting of drums, bass, guitar, and a real gen-u-ine Hammond B3 organ, Shady Bottom keeps the deep funk deep-down in the pocket. As one fan put it: “This is the finest in bass-heavy funk.”

The group has been performing throughout the Pacific Northwest since 2011 and focuses on laying down danceable, party-oriented rare funk & soul from the late 60′s and 70′s as well as a handful of originals inspired from that era. Influences such as James Brown, Syl Johnson, Booker T & the MGs, and Charles Wright run deep through their songs and set.

Members of the band currently perform in or have performed with Extra Thick, Cascadia ’10, Soul Senate, Jerry Miller, the Hot McGandhis, and the Braxmatics.  They also come from established funk, soul, and groove bands such as Altered States of Funk, Swamp Mama Johnson, Kissing Potion, and have made appearances with Etta James, Bo Diddley, and the Monophonics.  Shady Bottom has performed at venues across the area from the Showbox at the Market, the Tractor Tavern, Nectar, the Seamonster, High Dive, and Neumos. Having performed countless shows, festivals, and private events, these seasoned veterans make it happen without a hitch.
